ORCHESTRA CLASSES AVAILABLE
All orchestra students will select "Orchestra" from the full-year elective section of the course selection sheet
Beginners/Returners are welcome and encouraged to sign up!
Students will be separated into 4 sections of orchestra classes.
Low-String Intermediate/Beginning Orchestra- (viola, cello, bass)
Upper-String Intermediate/Beginning Orchestra- (violin)
These two classes focus on technique and music literacy in the first semester. Then the group applies those skills to ensemble performances the rest of the year. This two classes combine for performances.
Philharmonic Orchestra/Advanced Orchestra-This group of advancing players focus on advancing technique and music literacy in the first quarter. Students must possess music literacy and sight-reading skills. (Audition required for those new to Thoreau)
Chamber Orchestra/Advanced Orchestra-This group of advanced players focus on advanced technique and music literacy in the first quarter. Students must possess advanced music literacy and sight-reading skills. Self-motivation and advanced performance skills are displayed by members of this ensemble. (Audition required for those new to Thoreau)
ADVANCED ORCHESTRA AUDITION INFORMATION
Audition Dates and Times
- Two audition formats are provided, video and live.
- The due date of the Video Audition is April 30th. Sign up for a video audition through the Pre-registration and Audition Link.
- Two audition dates will be provided for face to face auditions at Thoreau-April 29 and 30, 2024. After you click submit in the pre-registration form linked below, you will see a confirmation of your registration and information regarding when links and further info will be sent.
- Returning 8th graders, will get audition information during class.
- New to Thoreau or new to orchestra 8th graders, should contact Ms. Yacovissi to set up an audition (@email)
