Thoreau’s School Counseling Mission Statement:
Thoreau Middle School Counseling team is dedicated to providing a comprehensive program that addresses the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. By utilizing data and Collaborative Learning Teams, school counselors collaborate with other educators, students, parents/guardians, and the community to create meaningful relationships. This collaboration enables the school counseling team to advocate for access and equity for all students. When the playing field is even for all students, it enables them to be the most successful they can be during their middle school years, despite any barriers that might be in their way. The focus is always on building skills and attitudes necessary to create a well-rounded student. By challenging and assisting students to perform to their highest potential, providing opportunities to develop good citizenship, we are preparing students for high school and beyond. All of this happens while promoting a welcoming environment that fosters awareness and respect for diversity.

All students from Thoreau Middle School graduate and effectively pursue their academic aspirations and goals. They are resilient, lifelong learners, able to adapt to an ever-changing environment. Students maintain meaningful relationships, while demonstrating social responsibility. Students embody qualities like creativity, independent thinking, productivity, kindness, and citizenship.
