Thoreau and Navy Federal Credit Union's Partnership

Thoreau and Navy Federal Credit Union Business Partnership

Did you know that Thoreau Middle School and Navy Federal Credit Union have worked together for over 30 years? The partnership’s programs are many and varied, all with the same goal, to build our sense of community and support our students and families. Thank you for all you do, NFCU!

Our partnership activities include:

Mentor Program

Students meet weekly with Navy Federal volunteers, who provide guidance, tutelage, and moral support. School counselors carefully match employees to students to optimize the mentor-mentee relationship—helping to ensure successful and rewarding outcomes.

Pen Pal Program

Thoreau’s English Speakers of Other Languages students are paired with Navy Federal volunteers who serve as pen pals. Through correspondence, pen pals keep in touch with each other, which provides students with opportunities to develop their writing and language skills.

Project Neighbors Program

Each fall our school counselors partner with Navy Federal to provide for Thoreau families in need. Food baskets, gifts for children and a variety of household items are purchased and distributed to our families at multiple events in November and December.

Direct Donations to the School

Each year, Navy Federal donates a set amount of money to Thoreau which is earmarked for students and families in need. In addition, donations of supplies are organized and provided to students and families in need.
