Thoreau Drama proudly presents its spring performance of' Shrek: The Musical JR.'! Shows will be held in the school theatre on Thursday, May 9, Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11. Performances each day will be held at both 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical.

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek.  One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wise-cracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task – if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance.  Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

SHREK THE MUSICAL JR.

Follow the adventures of Shrek, his sidekick Donkey, Princess Fiona, Lord Farquaad and everybody's favorite fairy-tale creatures. With an original new score, this show proves there's more to the story than meets the eye...

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What Is Shrek the Musical Like? Based on the contemporary fairy-tale book and the animated film it inspired, Shrek the Musical Jr. uses an all-new score to expand on the movie’s original story. (You get to know Shrek as a kid, for instance.) There’s a lot for the eyes and ears to ogle over: spectacular sets, innovative scene changes, puppets of all sizes, plus a large and energetic cast. Like the movie, there are pop-culture references galore and plenty of laughs, many that involve bodily noises. That might be a turn-off for some, but there’s also a good moral and traditional happy ending.

Is Shrek the Musical Good for Kids?

Kids will love everything about Shrek the Musical. The songs are catchy. The production delivers many cool sights and sounds. And with so many familiar-looking characters running around onstage, this is easily one of the most attention-grabbing productions. And obviously they’ll get some giggles from the potty humor.
